I have heard of affirmations before. For example, if you were sick and you kept saying to yourself, “I am healthy and well.” Your body would hear that message and create healing energy. That’s the premise.
But I read something yesterday that was an ‘A-ha’ moment for me. It said if you were at a cocktail party with a lot of background noise, you would still hear your name being mentioned behind you or potentially across the room. Because we have a filter in our brain that catches our name.
So if we have a goal in life, we need to create a sentence that explains that goal and then repeat it and write it down ten times a day.
If you decided you wanted to become a public speaker, your affirmation might be, “I am a successful public speaker.” And you would say it in your head and write it down ten times a day. This activity creates a new filter in your brain for that thought. And then that filter picks up words uttered in your environment that might lead to a speaking opportunity. In the same way that your name filter picks up your name.
So you might hear someone say they need a keynote speaker for an event and then turn around and ask them more about it. Those same opportunities were always around you in your everyday journey, but you didn’t have a filter in your brain to catch them. Does that make sense?
As author Paulo Coelho said, “And when you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it.”
But you have to let the universe know what you are looking for.
Write your sentence today. Start repeating it daily. And then see what it filters into your life.
