I saw a quote the other day that seemed to fit with the times. L.R. Knost, award-winning author and independent child development researcher, said, “Do not be dismayed by the brokenness of the world. All things break. And all things can be mended. Not with time, as they say, but with intention. So go. Love intentionally, extravagantly, unconditionally. The broken world waits in darkness for the light that is you.”
It is so easy to feel discouraged when things seem out of control or aren’t going the way we had planned. But we have to remind ourselves that we are in the driver’s seat. As President Barack Obama once said, “We are the ones we’ve been waiting for.”
And as L.R. Knost so eloquently points out, it is not time but intention that makes change. Days, weeks and months may pass. But what do you intend to do in this moment? Who can you inspire, touch or help with your words or actions?
Big change happens when a lot of little changes come together. It’s that ripple from the pebble that slowly moves into a wave.
Most of us think we are too small and powerless to make a difference. But you would be surprised how your energy affects others. You might feel like a hot mess, but others might look at you as a leader. A trailblazer. A changemaker.
So decide on what your intention will be today. And remember that the broken world is waiting for your light.
