I was listening to Tim Ferriss interview Laird Hamilton and Gabrielle Reese on his podcast this morning.  Gabrielle Reese is a professional volleyball player and model and her husband Laird Hamilton is a surfer.  When Tim asked them what their goal is when it comes to parenting, Laird said he wanted to create content human beings.

Content human beings.  The definition of content is “in a state of peaceful happiness.”  Sounds good to me.

How many of us are content?  Peaceful and happy?  And if not, why not?

I thought that was such a great goal to have.  To create content human beings.  Who find a job that pays them for doing something they enjoy.  Who find companions in life who understand them and love them flaws and all.  Who wake up every day excited about what’s in store.  Who aren’t afraid to try new things.  To fail, learn and grow.

The path to contentment is different for everyone.  But if we can move towards it for ourselves and for those we love, we are on the right journey.

Alfred Nobel, a Swedish chemist, inventor of dynamite and creator of the Nobel Prizes, said, “Contentment is the only real wealth.”

Here’s to being and growing content human beings.
