Never say never. For the first time ever, the Super Bowl went into overtime.
How many times in our lives have we been losing 28-9 at the end of the third quarter? Have we felt that we were too far gone to keep trying? Have we thought to ourselves, I just can’t make it happen, I’ll never succeed?
The New England Patriots were the favourite to win. Yet the Atlanta Falcons were 19 points ahead with just one quarter left to play. It seemed like the outcome was set.
But the Patriots never believed that. They knew that anything can happen if you never give up.
Harriet Beecher Stowe, an American abolitionist and author, once said, “When you get into a tight place and everything goes against you, till it seems as though you could not hang on a minute longer, never give up then, for that is just the place and time that the tide will turn.”
The Patriots won the Super Bowl 34-28 in overtime. The experts would have said it couldn’t happen. But New England believed in themselves beyond reason.
And so should you. It doesn’t matter if the odds are stacked against you and the clock is ticking. Throw that Hail Mary pass and know that you will win the game.
As Simon Sinek, a motivational speaker and author, once said, “Don’t quit. Never give up trying to build the world you can see, even if others can’t see it. Listen to your drum and your drum only. It’s the one that makes the sweetest sound.”
