Last night the streets were covered with goblins and princesses, skeletons and superheroes.
My 14-year-old son even went out and came back saying, “Wow. I feel like a kid again.”
The idea that for one night, young people can collect and eat all the candy they want is beyond exciting. Ask and you shall receive. A dream come true.
And there’s something quite freeing about seeing the world when it can’t see you. Not worrying about being judged for who you are because you are playing a role.
Writer Oscar Wilde once said, “Man is least himself when he talks in his own person. Give him a mask, and he will tell you the truth.”
However the best role we will ever play is ourselves. And the world is full of doors to knock on. With treats on the other side.
Will we take the chance and walk up to those doors? We will never know what’s on the other side if we don’t knock. Life’s sweetest surprises await us.
