I watched a video clip of actor Will Smith the other day and he shared a powerful message.  He started with a quote from the poet Rumi which was, “Set your life on fire.  Seek those who fan your flames.”

He then asked who are the five people you spend the most time with?  Who are your last five texts from?  Who are the last five people you met for coffee or had a long chat with?

Are those people filling your cup or draining it?  You want to surround yourself with those who fan your flames.

Only you can set your life on fire by working hard, following your heart, being grateful and believing in yourself.  But if you don’t surround yourself with cheerleaders who want you to win at life, and are working hard to set their own lives on fire, it is much harder to keep those embers burning.

As historical political figure Edmund Lee once said, “Surround yourself with the dreamers and the doers, the believers and thinkers, but most of all, surround yourself with those who see the greatness within you, even when you don’t see it yourself.”

So move towards people who generate positive energy in your life and quietly step away from those who don’t.

Then start building that fire in your life and as you fan your own flames know that those around you are helping you ignite the world.
