The holidays are busy.  Cooking, travelling, shopping, preparing, wrapping, washing, running, and decorating.  We never stop.  There is always action around us and it’s hard to find a moment of peace.

It made me remember how powerful silence is.  Yet it’s so hard to find.

Even when we are alone there is often a television or radio on in the background.  Or we might be googling or scrolling or talking on the phone.

But silence is the place where we get to know ourselves.  Our likes, dislikes, fears, hopes, joys, loves and passions.  Without waiting for someone else to inform us about us.

As ancient Chinese philosopher Lao Tzu once said, “Silence is a source of great strength.”

So can we find a pocket of time in the mayhem to sit in silence, breathe in the magic around us, and think about who we are and what we want?

Writer and motivational speaker Wayne Dyer said, “Everything that’s created comes out of silence. Your thoughts emerge from the nothingness of silence. Your words come out of this void. Your very essence emerged from emptiness. All creativity requires some stillness.”

Can we be still for a moment and see what comes out of that void?  It’s almost time to turn the page on this year and start a new chapter.  What will we write next after listening to the sound of silence?
