Our thoughts are everything. As Shakespeare once said, “There is nothing either good or bad but thinking makes it so.” Neuroscientist Sam Harris mentioned in his Waking Up app that thoughts are embedded in everything. In the construction of our walls, the recipes on our tables, the engines in our cars, the fashion on our bodies, the programs in our classrooms. I was listening to Tim Ferriss interview Peter Diamandis and so many inspirational tidbits were shared. Peter created the X Prize Foundation that offered a $10 million prize to entice private companies to build manned space ships that could go into space twice in two weeks. Peter didn’t have the prize money yet when he launched the bold initiative but he convinced 20 astronauts and the head of NASA to stand beside him on stage for the announcement. One hundred and fifty companies turned Peter down when he was trying to raise the prize money but Ansari finally said yes and the contest was a success. More than $100 million was invested in creating space travel solutions by non-government groups trying to win the prize. Big goals and big risks lead to big outcomes. Continue reading
