In Sapiens, Yuval Noah Harari writes, “Ever more scholars see cultures as a kind of mental infection or parasite, with humans as its unwitting host.”
This made me stop and wonder. We understand that physical viruses move through their hosts, making them sick and maybe worse, before moving on to the next person. Is that what is happening to our thoughts as well? Are we catching a story and then trying to make it true for us? Continue reading
I had some time off work last week and I spent it by water with loved ones while reading and listening to podcasts. I recently learned through the VIA Character Strength Survey that one of my character strengths is love of learning and this is how I fuel my well-being. The book Sapiens has been on my bedside table for about two years. I have so many books to read and just did not get to it. I started today and the first few paragraphs have me riveted.
