The other day I read something that really hit me.  A woman said her psychology professor told her that you love the people who make you love yourself when you are with them.

They make you love yourself.

You know when you are with people and you leave feeling like you could float on clouds?  They validated you and made you feel like you mean something?  They made you believe that you are who you are supposed to be?  Those are the people you want to spend more time with.  You want to learn from.  You want to grow with.

Then there are other people who you walk away from feeling empty and less than and sad.  They make you feel that you are not that great.  That you are on the wrong path.  That you will never be enough.  Those are not your people.

Mexican film director Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu said, “Everybody is looking for validation, no matter who you are, and I think that’s a need of the human condition – to look for affection or recognition or validation.”

Love yourself.  Just the way you are.  Then spend time with people who make you love the you you are even more.
