What the pain must be like. For someone like Anthony Bourdain. Who was living a life many dream of. Sharing his love of food and travel with millions of us who lived vicariously through his adventures. But the black hole of mental illness was too heavy to bear.
Anthony Bourdain once said, “You learn a lot about someone when you share a meal together.”
But some secrets are never uncovered. And many suffer in silence.
May we each take the time to notice those who may be struggling. And may we try and ask for help when we need it ourselves.
Bourdain reminded us how social and educational and rewarding a great meal can be. And how a memorable meal can be made with very few ingredients and a sprinkle of love. He said, “Meals make the society, hold the fabric together in lots of ways that were charming and interesting and intoxicating to me. The perfect meal, or the best meals, occur in a context that frequently has very little to do with the food itself.”
Let’s remember to sit and enjoy meals with the ones we love. Not just to fuel our bodies but to fuel our souls. To remind us how beautiful, and how short, life can be. Rest in peace Anthony Bourdain.
